Meet the Baker: Abby of Abbypcreations

Can you share a bit about your business and what you do?

The name abbypcreations originated circa 2012, where I’d regularly make desserts and such for my cousins daily. This dates back to an era when posting everything you ate or did on Instagram was the “absolute in,” & tagging plenty of hashtags was the thing to do. To which my cousins had asked me, “so what’s your hashtag so I can post it as my caption?!” thus, spontaneously, abbypcreations was born right in the comfort of my kitchen/home.

I would go on binge sprees of constant baking to the point where my parents suggested having my own bakery. However, I’d completely brush it off because it never seemed like it could be a reality at the time.

I am a small business that makes macarons and other desserts while navigating through nursing school. I told myself, “Why limit myself to one sky when there are a million stars?”

When and why did you decide to start your new business?

The idea of pursuing a small business during a pandemic sparked when I was in Hawaii when I baked macarons and a cake for my niece’s 2nd birthday. Some of my sister’s close friends came to celebrate and enjoyed my dessert table so much that one of them asked if I could cater her daughter’s birthday the following week. However, I wasn’t able to as I was returning home to California. My sister curated the idea that I should create a business of my own all while going to nursing school as she said, “It’s clear as day that you’re talented use it.”

I merely made an Instagram where I can dump photos of my creations. Friends and family discovered my Instagram and started to promote me as if I was already an up and running business. I had no idea the amount of love and support I had in my corner; my small business’s bloom is owed to my loved ones. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity that has been bestowed upon me.

What do you love most about running your own business?

I’ve always had a love for the art and craft of baking. I love running my own business because I can develop a schedule that correlates with my nursing school schedule. I love that it is in the solace of my home, and it is something I absolutely enjoy. Trying to pursue a small business, and being a student simultaneously is definitely challenging. Still, I am trying my best as this small business supports me during this pandemic and while I am in nursing school. I love how my heart is always full and overwhelmed with the amount of support I receive.

What are your overall goals for your business?

My business goal is to spread love and joy from sharing and eating baked goods and food created by me. My creations can be given as gifts or simply a well-deserved divulgence. This business is more than just a business. Baking is a passion of mine, and I truly find fortune in people finding joy and happiness through food.

Another goal for my business is my self-growth, to find balance and serenity in doing things that I love. I aspire to possibly be a part-time nurse and a part-time baker one day. My ambition to continue to persevere is strengthened by God.
