Maia & Raia of Savor in Spice Herb Company

Can you share a bit about your business and what you do?

Hello! We’re Maia and Raia from Savor in Spice Herb Company, headquartered in San Leandro, CA. We’re an e-commerce herb and spice retailer and launched our online store in November 2020. Our product line up includes various herbs, spices, salts, spice rubs, and unique seasoning blends.

When and why did you decide to start your new business?

Raia’s husband, Luis, came up with the idea for us to start a spice company years ago after spending much time with our “foodie family.” We kept the wheels turning in our heads for months, and with heightened shelter-in-place orders, we utilized the extra time we had at home to build out the business plan for our company.

Our dad was a butcher and sausage maker for many years, and we frequently took trips with him to his spice vendor’s shop. The variety and aroma in the building were captivating and has stuck with us since our youth. As Filipinx-American sisters, our passion for food and its ability to bring families together is why we decided to pursue the joint venture of starting SiS Herb Co.

What do you love most about running your own business?

We love the adventure of running our own business. Every day we’re faced with a new challenge, forcing us to think outside the box, pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones, and growing in the best ways possible. We love to express our creativity and find joy in the process of mixing our own unique seasoning blends.

What are your overall goals for your business?

We want our products to encourage our friends and families to share meals together because food is a means of connection. We hope to build a community of people that love food and encourage them to share recipes and their cultures with one another. We will promote a more sustainable future through green business practices.

In addition, we want to foster relationships with like-minded women of color entrepreneurs. We aim to be the number one herb and spice provider for women-owned restaurants, cafes, food trucks, Mand home chefs alike.
