Can you share a bit about your business and what you do?
Buenprobechocolate is a home-based dessert business located in Oakland, CA. We are a mother and daughter duo who use baking as our creative outlet. Our primary focus is to fuse our love for food, art, and love to serve our community. Buen provecho in Spanish means enjoying your food. We added the word chocolate in the end because we offer a variety of chocolate dipped treats.
When and why did you decide to start your new business?
We started our business in June 2020. We started this business because we previously owned a Mexican restaurant here in Oakland, CA. We had to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We took a big financial hit when this pandemic hit, and we had to look for a creative way to make ends meet. We always loved to make treats for our close family and friends and thought, why not offer them to all of the Bay Area?
What do you love most about running your own business?
What we love most about managing our own business is that we can set our own schedule. We also get to spend more time with our children, which is essential because we believe family is the most important thing.
What are your overall goals for your business?
Our overall goal is to offer training to other fellow bakers and treat makers so that they, too, can work for themselves. We would also like to do pop-ups or eventually have a storefront.
What’s your favorite cake you’ve made (so far!!)
This is a tough question because all the cakes we make are our favorite. Every cake is different and customized based on the customers’ preference. The cake we appreciate the most is a letter S cake we made in early June for my niece/ granddaughter because it was our first letter cake. That opened the door for our business.
