Can you share a bit about your business and what you do?
Behind the Sweets was created by two sisters who share the same passion: being in the kitchen. With one sister graduating from the culinary academy in San Francisco and the other who just started in her own kitchen, there was no better way to express our passion than bake it right into our sweets! Our strong family values are instilled in how we conduct our business. From how we bake to interaction with our customers, we hope your experience with us and our baked goods gives you an idea of who we are.
Creativity, Passion, and Dedication are the main elements behind developing our flavors and designing cakes.
When and why did you decide to start your new business?
My sister and I started this business about 10 years ago. At first, we decided to start making custom cakes for our friends and family. We enjoyed it so much, we took classes to get better equipped, learn, and perfect our craft. We’ll never be perfect, but we’ve come a long way and have thankfully been able to build our company name and clientele.
What do you love most about running your own business?
I love running my own business because I can be at home and be present with my husband and kids by choosing my own schedule. My kids are still small and haven’t started school yet, so it’s pretty amazing that I’m able to be at home with them and watch them grow. It’s actually more challenging working from home, lol, but a lot more rewarding. ️
What are your overall goals for your business?
Being a CFO (cottage food operation), one of my goals is to eventually open up a small cakery boutique to have more space to grow. My sister is in the works with her husband to open up their own Mexican bakery (her husband also has a family bakery business specializing in Mexican pastries), so I have become the front runner for Behind the Sweets. I am still pushing strong, even through the pandemic!
Of course, any entrepreneur would have a goal to be bigger and maybe open up multiple shops and put Behind the Sweets on the map.
