Can you share a bit about your business and what you do?
I sell homemade sushi bake, really just for fun and something yummy to share with others. I started with my Crab Salmon flavor, and now I have my Shrimp Tempura Flavor too.
When and why did you decide to start your new business?
I started in October 2020. I think the month before that was when I made sushi bake for the first time, and I thought I’d feed it to my nephews while I babysat, lol.
To my surprise, they really liked it, and they had such big smiles on their faces. I thought since no one close by was selling it yet at that time, I thought I’d start a small business in hopes of sharing “my little pans of happiness,” as I’d like to say.
What do you love most about running your own business?
Since I only have 2 flavors on my menu, I never get tired of doing it, even if it seems repetitive. I do the same thing almost every day (Haha!), but I enjoy every second. I always make my pans with the thought that someone is excited to eat them. But my most favorite part is hearing kind feedback from others saying how much their families love it. It warms my heart because that’s exactly how it all started… I just wanted my nephews/my family to enjoy it too.
What are your overall goals for your business?
I haven’t thought that far out since I’m still a college student (although graduating in August), but as of now, I have a new flavor in the works. If I choose to expand my small business after school, I dreamt about having a food truck or a physical store. Might be a big leap, but WHO KNOWS!
For funsies, what’s the best thing that’s happened to you so far?
One was when I had my first Pop Up in November 2020. I only started my business 2 weeks prior, so I was nervous, especially completely new to me. But I sold out in 2 hours, and I met so many of the small business owners and kept in contact until now.
The second was when a customer wanted me to add ribbons to all her orders to gift them for Christmas. Still, something I can do now (and I do it for free!)
