Can you share a bit about your business and what you do?
Knots + Found is a family-owned plant shop in Martinez, CA! We aim to create community through plants, knowledge sharing, and creativity. We sell house plants, pots, and hand-crafted macrame hangers along with vintage items and locally made goods.
Our mission is to make plants more accessible to all by sharing our best practices, personal experiences, and plant parenting guidance.
When and why did you decide to start your new business?
Our founder (and my mother-in-law), Liza started Knots+Found as a vendor at the Downtown Martinez Open Air Market showcasing her incredible macrame pieces and love of plants. In April 2018, Liza found the perfect place for a storefront, and the shop was officially born.
Liza has always had a passion for plants and an incredible eye for finding the beauty in items others typically ignore. I have been so lucky to watch and learn from Liza with her many years of business experience and in plants, growing my passions exponentially. I joined the team in late 2019. Since then, the two of us have taken on the chaos and the beauty of 2020 together 🙂

What do you love most about running your own business?
Getting the chance to personally engage with many different communities, sharing our plant stories and experiences. We love being able to provide a space to amplify local artists and makers while also supporting other small businesses.
What are your overall goals for your business?
First and foremost, we want to continue to focus on excellent customer service and community engagement. Our larger goals are to expand our offerings and inventory and hopefully host classes in the future. Bigger dreams would be to open a second location!
For funsies, what’s your favorite product you’ve created so far?
We have really loved our partnership with Kendra from KendraMDesign, who created “Together, We Grow. Black Lives Matter” Stickers and 100% of proceeds for said stickers go to BLM organizations.
