Meet the Baker: Cerene of Batter Together Bakery

Can you share a bit about your business and what you do?

My business is called “Batter Together Bakery.” I LOVED batter together because it was a play on “Better Together,” which means this bakery is all about the concept of “together” and community!

There is something for almost everyone–that includes the fur babies! I make Filipino American fusion treats, and I also make dog treats. I try to make treats that can be enjoyed by all demographics. Some of my treats are sweeter or creamier than others, so everyone can enjoy them.

I also do catering and special occasions! I especially enjoy transforming my yummy treats into themes to celebrate everyone’s little wins and holidays.

When and why did you decide to start your new business?

I am not ashamed to reveal baking saved my life, and I saved Kona’s life. Together, we bring life to your homes and stomachs. Kona is a senior dog rescued from the Humane Society Silicon Valley. She is perfect to me, but others might not think so due to her age, health problems, and behavioral issues. If adopted by others, her medical bills or separation anxiety might have ended her up in another shelter or, even worse, doggy heaven.

Personally, I suffer from social anxiety, depression, and ADHD. This is why Mental Health is so important to me. Before this, I was in a multi-billion dollar company that would have made me an assistant manager at age 21. However, I cried myself to sleep every day. The life was not for me. After, I spiraled. I left the company and my home for 21 years the same day. I just left. I had no ambition, no future, no goals, and my relationships suffered. I planned to end everything for 6 months straight. Until one day, I had a deep reflection and reality check. I could not keep hurting myself and my loved ones.

One day I fixed my romantic relationship, and I learned how to bake. My life has changed since then. This company started from issues and rock bottom. From now on, it will only go up and represent opportunity. For that reason, all tips are donated to mental health and no-kill shelters. Come on this journey with Kona the Entrepawneur, and I know you are enjoying treats truly made by love.

What do you love most about running your own business?

I love connecting with people! Before, I was so shy and had social anxiety. However, I learned in life it’s not what you know; it’s WHO you know. Marketing and meeting new people is the #1 thing I love about running my business.

A close second is being creative and trying to innovate all areas of my company. You don’t have to invent the wheel. Just learn how to roll it better. Innovating and coming up with creative solutions makes me feel empowered and gets me hyped up!

What’s your #1 recommendation for someone who has yet to try out your menu?

Honestly, my menu is diverse, and it depends on what type of person you are! You like chocolate chip cookies? I have close to the best ones Santa would come ho-ho-hoping for!

You like ube? My crinkles are moist and packed with ube flavor!

Are you into chewy goodness? My waffles are a beautiful mix of crunchy outside and chewy mochi goodness inside.

You like cream cheese? GIRL, ME TOO. My cheesecake bars are double the cheesecake love!

Are you a dog? Try my all-organic treats!

Do you have a business goal you can’t wait to hit either this year or in the future?

I want Batter Together Bakery to be a household name! I want to open up a storefront or a commercial kitchen. I want the broaden my company to include a body care line, a drink menu, and other unique services usually never seen in a bakery!

As I said, I focus on the “together” aspect and want there to be something for everyone. I also want to one day fund a shelter and save millions of dogs’ lives.

Funding a community center that focuses on mental health for low-income, struggling individuals would also be on my bucket list!
